Wasteland

WASTELAND is a 12-day transdisciplinary festival on waste ecologies held at the Grey Space in the Middle from, consisting of an exhibition, symposium and workshops. Each day we throw away packaging, bottles, hygiene products, food, technical parts, and smartphones while the list could be endless… and we have many names for the things we throw away: Waste, trash, refuse, litter, garbage, debris, junk, dross, detritus, sweepings, dregs, remains, crap, rubbish - Consciously and unconsciously we produce it. More than humans make use of their junk; the complex balance of ecosystems on our planet found intelligent ways not to get flooded by its remains. Millions of processes are at work on our planet to turn waste into flourishing biomass again, but we as humans rarely do it. Instead we produce single-use remains every day. WASTELAND invites the audience to a multi-angled perspective towards trash. We want to look into a future in which this can be different.
